How to remove the Vizit Scanning button

If you are not licensed for Vizit Pro, then you are not licensed for Vizit Scanning.  If you used the Solution Installer to install Vizit, then all of our available features are installed and activated to any site collection you chose when installing, even if your license does not apply to those features.

If you would like not to see the Vizit Scanning button, or not have it available to your customers, you can deactivate and uninstall that feature from your farm by following these steps (in SharePoint 2010 you may use any of the UI, stsadm or PowerShell)

Using the SharePoint UI to deactivate Vizit Scanning

This will not remove the feature from your farm (therefore, it is possible to be re-activated, or activated on new Site Collections).  To uninstall the feature from your farm, please see the sections below on using stsadm or PowerShell

  1. As a Site Collection Administrator, browse to the top-level site of the Site Collection for which you would like the scanning button removed
  2. Browse to the site's "Site Settings" page:
    • For SharePoint 2010: In the upper-left corner of the site, click "Site Actions" and select "Site Settings" from the menu
    • For SharePoint 2007: In the upper-right corner of the site, click "Site Actions" and select "Site Settings" from the menu
  3. From the "Site Collection Administration" group, click "Site collection features".  If you do not see the "Site Collection Administration" group or "Site collection features" link, you may not be a Site Collection administrator, or you are not on the top-level site of your Site Collection.
  4. Locate the Vizit Scanning feature and click the "Deactivate" button on its line
  5. Confirm that you would like to deactivate the feature by clicking the "Deactivate this feature" link on the warning page

The Vizit Scanning button should no longer appear in your Ribbon (2010), or New menu (2007).

Using the STSADM command to deactivate and remove Vizit Scanning

  1. Using a login account that has farm administrator rights, open a command prompt on a machine joined to your SharePoint farm
  2. SharePoint 2010 and 2007 have different paths to the stsadm command:
    • For SharePoint 2010: cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Web Server Extensions\14\bin
    • For SharePoint 2007 (32-bit on a 32-bit machine, or 64-bit): cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Web Server Extensions\12\bin
    • For SharePoint 2007 (32-bit on a 64-bit machine): cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\bin
  3. For each Site Collection where Vizit Scanning has been activated, run the following stsadm command (replace with your server URL and Site Collection path):
    • For SharePoint 2010: stsadm -o deactivatefeature -name Vizit.Scanning -url http://path.to.server.com/sites/pathToSite
    • For SharePoint 2007 (32- or 64-bit): stsadm -o deactivatefeature -name VizitScanning -url http://path.to.server.com/sites/pathToSite
  4. Finally, uninstall the feature from your farm:
    • For SharePoint 2010: stsadm -o uninstallfeature -name Vizit.Scanning
    • For SharePoint 2007: stsadm -o uninstallfeature -name VizitScanning

  2. Once opened, and for each Site Collection where Vizit Scanning has been activated, run the following PowerShell cmdlets:
